The Individual we are looking for 

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about sustainability, with extensive experience of working within the industry, ideally as a consultant. The preferred candidate will have experience in building stakeholder relationships and leading the delivery of sustainability programmes. They will have a broad understanding of measuring and managing environmental and social impacts supported by detailed knowledge of the significant ESG and sustainability reporting frameworks. They will be able to work at a strategic level, providing guidance on the development and implementation of programmes to improve performance and embed responsible business principles into culture and process.

This role includes responsibility for direct line management and the development of a team.

Responsibilities vary according to business needs, but can include:

  • Leading the delivery of clients’ sustainability programmes through project teams
  • Conducting Responsible Business discovery sessions to assess the effectiveness of clients’ activities and identifying risks and opportunities
  • Carrying out stakeholder engagement programmes and developing materiality assessments
  • Building effective working relationships with clients and key stakeholder groups
  • Developing ESG roadmaps and supporting clients to establish the systems and processes to underpin them
  • Contributing to the development of new service offers and the assets they require
  • Developing sales leads and preparing bids and proposals, including costing
  • Speaking at events and preparing thought leadership pieces
  • Leading and guiding team members towards achieving organisational goals. This includes providing clear direction, setting expectations and fostering a positive and productive work environment

Required Skills 

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience leading sustainability projects, ideally as a consultant or alternatively leading an in-house sustainability team
  • Extensive experience of conducting audits, conducting gap analysis and preparing reports
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and deliver them on time and within budget
  • The ability to confidently build client relationships and lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Good delegation skills and the ability to motivate others
  • A sound understanding of the commercial context of sustainability
  • A good understanding and strong experience of the principles of net zero carbon, science-based targets and materiality
  • A working knowledge of common ESG and sustainability reporting frameworks
  • Experience of leading and motivating team members towards achieving organisational goals
  • Excellent English oral and written skills; strong presentation skills
  • The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK

Package 

  • Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 per annum according to qualifications and experience
  • 31 days annual leave including public or bank holiday plus Christmas shutdown (typically 3 days)
